Accordingly, a number of functionalized magnetofluorescent NPs containing the iron oxide nanocore coated with different organic molecules have been synthesized and studied for cellular uptake on multiple human cell types in order to evaluate specific cellular affinities of different functional- ized NPs that could provide useful information for the develop- ment of target-specific NMs.

The available data reporting the cellular uptake of functionalized NPs by multiple cell types pro- vide excellent opportunity for development of ICUC QAAR models as well, which has not yet been attempted.
The aim of the present work is to identify relevant structural features of the engineered NPs that are responsible and influence the cellular uptake, and to develop QSAR models for predicting the cellular uptake of diverse NPs in different human cell types, following the OECD guidelines for QSAR development.
